Not only is the HotRod Putter good looking, its asymmetrical design has a very specific visual purpose not to mention its unique ball striking qualities.

1. With no alignment aids whatsoever on the top of the putter, the only way to align the putter is to square the face to the target. You then square your body to the clubface, take one last look at your target and swing. This simple process un-clutters the mind enabling you to make the putt.

2. The “open body” mallet style putter head structure provides maximum MOI for increased accuracy and distance control, plus it allows us to create a huge cavity back face that dramatically increases the size of the sweet-spot.

3. Loft, lie angle and weight are perfect.

Specifications:

  • Weight 372 grams
  • Face loft 2.5 degrees
  • Lie angle standard length shafts - 73 degrees (adjustable +- 6 degrees)
  • Lie angle mid and long shafts - 78 degrees (adjustable +- 3 degrees)
  • MOI  4671 g.cm2

“The HotRod Putter swings like a blade putter with the accuracy and distance control of a mallet putter”.

A word about putter alignment at address:

There are a lot of putter manufacturers out there that claim to have the best “patented” alignment patterns and head design. There are single ball, two ball, three ball, single line, double line, dots, dashes, double dots, triple dots, disappearing lines, disappearing dots, arrows, squares, diamonds, you name it, it’s out there. The truth is… 99% of the winning pros throughout the history of golf simply squared the face of the putter to the target, squared their body to the clubface and swung. They made their putts and went on to the next hole. Some stood with their eyes directly over the ball and some didn’t. Some swung straight-back and straight-through, and some swung inside-square-inside. Why were they all so successful? Because they all thought the same thoughts and they all did the same routine. They squared the clubface to the target, squared their body to clubface and made the putt. No distractions, no time spent thinking is the putter in the exact correct position? are the horizontal lines lined up? are the dots lined up? is the club face centered on the ball? no, they squared the face to the target and that’s it. The rest of the magic was in their minds and flowed out through their hands just like a great quarterback making a pass, or pitcher throwing a strike, or basketball player making a three pointer and so on. All of these extremely accurate physical feats are executed every day with no alignment aids whatsoever, nothing… just their elbows and eyeballs squared to the target and then they let it go. So forget the fancy alignment gimmicks, they distract you more than they help you. Our putter will let your mind do what it was designed to do… make the putt.

Mallet vs. Blade Putters

The HotRod Putter is a mallet because mallet-type putters are clearly the superior design when it comes to consistency, accuracy, and forgiveness striking the ball. It all has to do with the MOI inherent to all mallet designs. MOI is the measurement of how much a golf club resists twisting when a ball is struck somewhere other than the sweet spot. By increasing the width or depth of the putter, you effectively move the center of gravity back and away from the striking surface which increases the MOI. As MOI goes up, "forgiveness" goes up. As forgiveness goes up, off-center struck putts roll truer to the intended target line and travel closer to the intended distance.

Why are blade putters still around and still so popular?  The reason is that while mallet putters strike the ball more consistently, when it comes to “swinging” a putter, the blade style putter is visually easier to swing. This is because blade putters swing well through all putting methods; the straight-back and straight-through method, the inside-to-square method, and the inside-to-inside method. Basically, all golfers are comfortable swinging blade type putters for this reason whether they know it or not. Why do blade type putters swing better through all swing methods? Simply because of visual appearance of blade putter head itself. With a blade putter, the only significant alignment aid or “straight line” the player sees is the face of putter itself, so this is what the golfer uses to “square” the putter to the target. And what a great place to focus too!… right where the putter makes contact with the ball… wow, who’d a thunk! So here is the problem, since their inception, designers of mallet type putters took advantage of the extra depth of the putter and added a nice long “straight” line, or two, or three! Naturally, one would think that this aids in the alignment process. Sure it helps with alignment, the problem is it suggests and forces everyone to swing “straight-back and straight-through” trying to keep those long lines inline and online with the target, a move that is not natural and difficult. The HotRod Putter eliminates this problem with its unique asymmetrical club head design. You square the club face to the target and then putt.
